Where Can You Stay During Your Sherwood Oaks Classes? Are you from out of town/state/country and don’t know the Hollywood area?
Let us help you.
Hollywood, North Hollywood, Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles, all close together, yet not… and kind of a scary in certain areas if you are not familiar with our City of Angels. Here we share with you everything we know — from bargain to the 5-star places and the best value transportation.
We hope this helps you choose whatever fits your tastes and your budget with as little effort as possible.
Local Accommodations & Travel
On a reasonable budget you can explore Hollywood and meet the Hollywood execs of your dreams while attending our courses. Our students travel from across the country and around the world, so Sherwood Oaks is pleased to offer these tips for getting around and lists of affordable, comfortable hotels situated in the heart of the film industry’s capital city!
Invest in Your Dream!
Here are some things to keep in mind:
- Considering renting a vehicle? It may be easier to get around without one. Traffic can be extremely congested and trying to drive even short distances can take a very long time. Also, PARKING is either premium priced or non-existent.
- Trying to save some money? If you are flying in from another state or country, you may find the best prices through one of the travel websites that put together packages for you. If you purchase your airfare, lodging, and car rentals all at the same time, you may save more money. Check websites like Booking.com, Orbitz, Priceline, Expedia
- Just looking for a hotel booking site? Check out Trivago! There is also a newer site called Agoda that sometimes has even lower rates than Trivago.
- If you are frugal, you can spend about $69 a day for food, lodging and daily transportation.
Please note: This page is provided as a convenience for our students. Sherwood Oaks is not affiliated with any of the providers listed, nor do we endorse any of them. We cannot guarantee prices, so please check for updated rates before budgeting your trip.
AirBnB
I love Airbnb (or if on your phone, get the APP) especially if you are on a budget since you get the biggest bang for the buck and often get access to a kitchen (but be sure to inquire.) There are three things to know before staying at an Airbnb.
- Most hosts will only allow guests stay at their home if they have a positive reviews from other hosts so it’s best to have a positive profile before you make reservations.
- Always ask about private parking. If they say ‘street parking’ then realize it’s unlikely there will be street parking available after 6 pm.
- Always ask whether the room will be private (and lockabe) or shared. Inexpensive places in LA below $60 a night tend to be dormitory style (room-shares) and can be a chaotic experience. Often there will be bunk-beds with five or more people in one room. Many of these room-shares do not have secure storage or lockers, so do not leave valuables. Clothing is usually not taken, but food, cigarettes and toiletries have gone missing.

Other Important Things To Consider!
Traffic – Give Yourself Extra Time
Always give yourself EXTRA time for traffic, during rush hour double the time. The traffic in ALL of southern California is HORRIBLE and there is nothing you can do about it except PLAN for it… (sorry).
Accommodations – Closer is Always Better
Avoid traffic by finding lodging that is within ten miles of the meeting location — even if it is more expensive. It is worth avoiding the traffic headache. Usually classes meet in Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Burbank (for studios), or Santa Monica. Google map the class location and check travel distances to our suggested lodgings.
Transportation – Skip the Car Rental
Unless you have planned meetings or are visiting a friend off the beaten track, we do NOT recommend a car rental. It’s expensive and often difficult to park. If you are FLYING in, consider taking the flyaway out of LAX to your lodgings.
For daily transport we recommend shuttles or public transportation, especially if you are on a budget. If you are traveling with others, then use Lyft or Uber and share the ride cost, or rideshare. Before booking lodgings use Google Maps to check proximity of lodging options to transportation junctions (bus/train). The subway (Metrolink) is great for getting around in LA and the busses aren’t bad either.
